SERVICE PROGRAM

The HKP services all colleges of the University of the Philippines Baguio by offering the basic physical education (PE) courses which are prerequisites for graduation for an undergraduate degree or title.

All UP undergraduate students are required to take four (4) PE courses for a total of 8 units which may be chosen from the following:

  • PE1* - Foundations of Physical Fitness
  • PE2 - a variety of Physical Education courses for beginners
  • PE3 – a variety of Physical Education courses for Intermediate students
  • PE4 (Varsity): PE2 equivalent for members of the UPB varsity teams and the UPB Dance Troupe

*PE1 is a required course in UPB

 

SPORTS AND OTHER PROGRAMS:

In addition to the service program, the HKP likewise offers non-academic programs in sports, recreation and dance.

INTRAMURALS

The Intramurals, a school-based sports program, promotes physical fitness through sports and involves students, faculty and non-academic personnel. The HKP and the University Student Council (USC) work hand-in-hand in the management of this event.

VARSITY TEAMS

Students who wish to excel in sports may train for the varsity teams for men and women. UP Baguio has varsity teams in archery, arnis, badminton, basketball, chess, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and dance troupe (UPBDT) which are fielded in competitions every athletic season. The establishment of rigid selection criteria for varsity athletes is made and implemented by competitive coaches according to their field of specialization.

UP Baguio is a member of the Baguio- Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL) since 1986 (with the then Baguio- Benguet Collegiate Athletic Association) which holds a well-planned calendar of athletic events during the academic year. Our athletes also participate in regional and national sports competitions like the Cordillera Administrative Region- Association of State Universities and Colleges(CAR-ASUC), where UP Baguio has been a member school since February 2009, WNCAA, SCUAA, and other invitational tournaments.

DANCE PROGRAM

The program promotes and develops dance as a performing art and stages performances of Philippine folk dances, modern contemporary, Ballroom/Social Dance, hip hop, and Dance Theater to provide opportunities for students who have talent in dance to express themselves and find fulfillment in dance.

The UP Baguio Dance Troupe (UPBDT) is composed of bona fide students of the university and is under the artistic direction and management of a choreographer.
